Neill: Wenger Dismisses City Interest In Van Persie

Posted on October 01, 2011 by admin

Arsene Wenger has acted angrily to the suggestion that Van Persie could move to Manchester City in the next transfer window. Van Persie still has two years left on his contract but has made ambiguous statements about his future at Arsenal.

Manchester City are looking to sign a new striker because of the trouble they are having with Carlos Tevez. The Argentinian has been suspended after refusing to play in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

Wenger was quoted in the Guardian about Van Persie, he said: “I never said I was unhappy with Man City but I don’t know why we speak about transfers. I will never answer any more. Robin is under contract until 2013. This is a story created to create a story. There is no truth in it. Why should we sell players in January? Man City already have problems because they have too many strikers, they pay half of the league for them to play away somewhere. Why should they want to buy strikers? It’s very difficult to understand.”

It’s incredible that City would want to sign another striker when they already have Balotelli, Dzeko and Aguero. And why would Van Persie want to sit on the bench for half the games while those other get to play games?

I think if Van Persie does leave Arsenal it will be for a big club in Italy or Spain, but that will be a while yet. For now Van Persie is staying at the Emirates.

If Van Persie won’t sign a new contract and City are offering over £30 million then we should just cash in and put that money back into another world class striker. How likely that will actually happen is another conversation. Don’t get me wrong, I love Van Persie, but he’s getting older and is injury prone, I’d much rather he stayed but if it does turn out that he’s not commited to the club we’ll just have to accept it and make the best of the situation.

Man city goes after every player said to be good. THe coach does no scouting because Arab money is available to buy any player under the sun even if Machini does not have the capacity to manage them. In all his coaching carrer, Machini has NOT groomed one single player. All he does is go after any player scouted by others and come with plenty of money. with all the extravagance, he will not win and silverward this year and I see him getting sacked before the end of the season. I keep wondering if man city has any academy. All the do is buy players they dont need just because there is plenty to spend. I wonder why there is no law on payment of salaries for players on loan because half of the players in the EPL will be city players on loan and then the title can be arranged.
