John Collard: Would Arsenal fans take Fabregas back?
Cesc Fabregas (a move forward or backward) by John Collard
‘There’s no such thing as a great substitute in the world of football – I couldn’t tell you what makes a great substitute,’ Fabregas told Marca.
‘I always wish my team-mates well and put a happy face on. If I have to take my unhappy face home then so be it, but I would never let my team-mates or manager see it.’
‘I’ve always said that I play for the best team in the world, but I came here to compete, to learn and enjoy, not to sit wracking my brains.’
‘The manager knows what I can offer. I’m delighted to be a part of this team but when a coach tells me I have to go, I’ll go.’
‘But I will not make it easy for him to do so, by any means. I will keep going, looking forward to the time that things change.’
‘I came here to see out my career.’
Hello gooners.
A small blog today on your view on the Cesc situation and a possible return to Arsenal (if ever). I’ve been reading many peoples posts and small paper articles on the return of the midfield genius. Now im not looking for a argument so I want to make this very clear all I want is a opinion (Would you take him back?).
Cesc chose to leave Arsenal as many do down the years be it for money or say they are going for silverware. Now Cesc seems to be finding life a tad harder and seems to struggle in the new managers plans people cry for a return (Why?). Can Arsenal not move on without Fabregas as we did from Henry. Im looking at some comments from fans and saying lets get him back we need him (I don’t think we do). Yes it would be a great addition to the squad but when Jack Wilshire is fit I believe we have a better all round talent. Also it would seem Santi Cazorla seems to be adding just as much football ability as the great Cesc Fabregas. I read so many blog merchants come on here and said we don’t need him anyway (and they are right) but lets stick by our guns and move on.
When a great player like Cesc wants to leave, are the fans the first thing on his mind (NO WAY) Cesc like Van Persie have all said how much they love the club and Wenger is like a father (Well I wouldn’t leave my father in the sxxt) Would you guys? I really believe its too soon and we must all move on and forget about Cesc Fabregas. I would really like to hear your views on this situation and what you would like. Yes it would be great to have him still at Arsenal but taking him back is that really the answer? Do we all pine for the player that much and feel we cant move on from a player that cant break into the Barcelona team (Ok Cesc come home) Second best is what you want (WE ALL LOVE YOU AGAIN!).
Gooners in the midfield I think we have the players to cover Cesc and to bring him back in my opinion would only rock the boat. Remember this is just a blog on your view…. if you ask me Cesc will not return to Arsenal anytime soon. Liverpool has more chance of signing Drogba.
To be also fair it would seem midfield is Arsenal’s strongest part and it doesn’t need to be changed. So do we open our arms for Cesc to walk back into the team and tell Arteta and Jack sorry lads (Not that Jack would make way for Cesc because he is a better all round player). With Wilshire I see a young Paul Gascoigne and has ability in abundance. So say this fantasy talk we keep hearing about should be true what do you wish to see. For me I would have liked Cesc to stay like Van Persie and grow with the new group of player. (But they wanted to leave) So is the love for the club really that strong and for the weeping fans.
Would it not be fair even in this early stage to say Carzorla is doing a great job and maybe as well as Cesc, and the return of Jack and Mikel Arteta would make a statement of saying sorry Cesc there is no room at the inn. I just think fans begging for the resign of Cesc would not show the player how big the club really is. It’s a topic which im sure will have many great views. But listen gooners I want to make this clear im asking your opinion I am in no shape or form seeking a argument with you all.
It’s the principle of the matter it would be like taking back Flamini but some will say well he is not in the same class (SO) It’s the message Arsenal football club send. Listen fellow gooners when it comes to the crunch we are the real love merchants of this wonderful club (Not the players) WELL TONY ADAMS DID. Thanks for reading.

Hleb left Arsenal and wanted to come back as well. Although, I admire both players and would love to have them back, Hleb is past his prime, but Cesc is another matter. He is still young and I would take him back, since I dont see Arshavin and Rosicky in the team beyond this season. With both these players gone and Arteta nearing 30, I think Cesc should be re-signed, if he shows the desire to leave Barca, which he has not done. I see Eisfeld coming in the squad next term and would love to see Isco (Malaga) come in as well

We are “THE ARSENAL”….if you feel your DNA is matched to another club and think you can come back if you cant hack it there, screw you i say…it was because of him the “big names” exodus started!……FUCK HIM!!!! The only former player i would gladly welcome back would be Dudu, now there is a gentleman!

i wouldn,t take him back, people have a short memory they forgot the way he behaved to get his” dream move”,he walked around with a long face, behaving like a martyr on the way we got screwed on the deal(ie;price we sold him&the clause he signed),on top of that his timing left us no time to get proper replacement, adding to that na$ri,s departure.remember him posting pictures of himself smiling, surrounded by trophies while we were getting hammered by manure,NO WAY JOSE!!let it be an example/lessons for others, leave us at your own peril.UP THE GUNNERS&IN ARSENE WE TRUST!!

The transfer saga stretched because, rightly, we attempted all we could to keep him.
Here is a scenario – say your player for valencia (no idea why them, could be anyone), was there for 8 years and their captain. Then Arsenal tried to sign you – would you do all could to engineer a move to Arsenal: as an Arsenal fan?

How could his love be greater for us when he left us to join them?
That’s not greater,
He is Catalan/Spanish and started his football life there.
His family are back there and his dad supports them.
You just said he wanted to fulfil a dream.
A dream is your ultimate choice in any given situation.
Do’nt forget this specualtion lasted a least two summers.
He had time to think about it.

My gut feeling is to let him serve as an example of the grass is always greener saying. show him tough love, although Arsene always left the door open for his return. it’s up to Arsene though. Arsene knows. I like our present team, everyone is hungry, unfortunately Cesc is too “special”. I’m done with the special players, Nasri, Fab, RVP, Arshavin, Song, Walcott. Let’s push on with the team of battlers we have now. I’ll take Yossi back anyway.

In my opinion, i think cesk should be welcome back home, if ARSENAL has the financial resources and necessicity for him. Let’s take HENRY’S situation last summer as a case study. Gunners for LIFE.

Fabregas has said in interview the only clubs he would play for are Arsenal or Barcelona – said in an interview last year, with Sky sports.
Cesc is a good guy of football, he left Arsenal to join his boyhood club. If it transpires that he has to leave Barca, Arsenal should do everything possible to bring him back.
Hot debate. What do you think?

personally i dont want him back, it wont show any sign of disipline if we take him back. Fab didnt want to play for arsenal & he begged to move to barca, & now whatever hapens to him there, he should take it because that is his dream club. & i’m also beging noboy should even link fab return to arsenal cos i will realy be angry if that hapenes. Wenger is already gradually building a strong team with the likes of carzola, podolsky, arteta, diaby,ox e.t.c & thats good for the future. So pls fab we dont want you to come & spoil the formation. By the way carzola is far better than u.

when fabregas many said we will not be able to replace him but we proven critics wrong by replacing him and have moved on. Now his chances are limited and now used as a sub at barka and his complaining he should take his sorry ass else where but Arsenal is a no go area.

People r harsh on Fabregas he loves arsenal (loves barca more)and wasn’t a brat like many say . Would take him back cuz he didn’t leave for money (ambition) but 2 join his boyhood club .a great by far in my eyes

Of course I’d have him back, he’s a great player whose only ever had good things to say about the club. Can’t see it ever happening though as even if Barca wanted to sell they’d probably want more than they paid and that will never ever happen.

Dear Gooners
The bottom line is every body in life makes mistakes. Some for drastic than others.
Yes it’s frustrating the fact that Fabregas left Arsenal for his boyhood club Barcelona.
I know there are a few of us out there that think Arsenal should move forward and forget about Fabregas.
But what you all need to take into consideration is hes still young and is still a world class player.
Look a Thiery Henry for example he left for Barcelona hes gone to do his thing in the states came back to Arsenal on loan and did a good job.
Fabregas is class and will do a fantastic job for us.
It will lift the club even more.
The premiership and the rest of Europe will be shaking when they see the arsenal midfield line up.
We need depth in our squad. If Diaby Arteta Corzola (Rosicky & Wilshire still out) who would you play.

Arsenal had and agreement with Barca ”if arsenal were to buy Cesc back the buyout close wont be effective”. So we could buy him at the same price we sold him and that is still big price for Arsenal to by a player according to Mr Fucking Wood..

Cesc got what he wanted plain and simple and he bitched and moaned until he forced it.
If he decides he would like to come back, he would have to show more respect for the Arsenal squad.
Cesc, show them you do posses humility and show a bit more respect for our club.
Those comments you made about not trusting your former arsenal team mates, having to do everything yourself and the way Arsene coaches the squad were out of order.
If he wants to re-join the SQUAD here at Arsenal, I would welcome him but only if his attitude is right and he genuinely wanted to commit his future to being a part of the Arsenal SQUAD.
I doubt Arsene would want to pay much over 20 mill either, what ever has happened to him there he is not of the same quality as when we sold him.
If we did get the price right and bring him home to London, that would give us amazing strength in depth through the middle, a midfield truly capable of challenging for all competitions.
Add a classy striker and a solid versatile player to cover for the defence and we would be a force to be reckoned with in all competitions once again.

Dear collard,
The imminent return of Fabregas reminds me of the story of Prodigas’s son buh in this case dre are many side to it.
Also “in wenger i trust” i so much trust in wenger’s decisions. If wenger takes him back fine and if not fine. Buh i wldnt want to see fabregas coming back and tryn to now bench players dt believed in arsenal and stuck with the club or demandin a higher wage. Well, i dnt see dt happenin. Affrimatively, he will be added value to the current arsenal team. Tanks

If i’d been asked this before the Liverpool game my opinion may have been different but right now i’d take him but only as a squad player, on a similar wage to Cazorla etc.
For the simple reason that although we have Wilshire back soon, i still think our squad is too thin and an injury or two would put us in trouble but with a player of Cesc’s quality it would/should be ok. I’m not bothered about the reasons he left, i only care about what is best for Arsenal.

How about this for a thought.
We know Cesc is a brilliant playmaker. If we do not sign him back and god forbid another EPL team makes a bid for him that passes BArca’s evaluation (MANC or MANU or CHELSEA – remember manu and chelsea are short of quality playmakers).. we will have an even stronger rival to beat.
If he wants to come back, why not. World class players do not want to come to Arsenal because of our wage structure. And here is a World Class player who wants to play for us (if the BARCA thing does not work out) and we sit here in arrogance thinking we are the best team in the world and anyone would want to play for us!!!.. Think Eden Hazard ppl… he went to CHELSEA for crying out loud!!!!
IF Cesc wants to come back to Arsenal and if Arsenal can afford his price, we should bring him back.
A midfield of Cesc, Wilshere, Arteta, Carzola, Ramsey, Diaby, Gervinho, Theo and Ox is something that will terrify any opponent in the world….

Apart from RVP joining Man Utd, I respect his method of leaving more.He was completely honest and did not hide and did not keep us guessing. If anyone expected him to stay after what he said publically, that was their problem.
Fabregas refused to ask for a transfer offcially because he wanted to have his cake and eat it.
His dream move to Barca without the anger of the Arsenal fans. Why not Man up?
If he returned it would be because the dream failed.
This is the reason players should join a CLUB and not a manager.
What if he came back and Wenger left for what some reason.
Does he leave again because his spiritual father has left?
He is true class but once bitten twice shy people…..

Bloggers can be very funny, so jack is better than Cesc, are you kidding me? I’d take Cesc back into the team any time any day, he’s such a great player and the best passer of the ball since Zizou, don’t be delude, Jack might later become better than Cesc but he can’t even lace his boot now, not when he hasn’t played in close to 18 months now

Damn. Wilshere is a future Arsenal Fc star/legend/king or whatever you call it. But the kid had one great season and one season out injured so you shouldn’t even be putting this much pressure on him saying he is better than Cesc all round because at the moment, its fair to say he isn’t. On the Cesc situation I wont mind a return if Cesc apologizes to fans it was a wrong move and admits AFC is his home. Arsene knows best though. Also on his return make sure to check if there is any Barca DNA luring in his blood during the medical. AFC till death do us part.

Well
I wouldnt want us to buy Cesc has Barcelona have put a clause of over 25m euros
Maybe a Loan deal to teach the likes of Olsson and Toral a thing a 2
I see Eisfield Toral and Olsson the way forward not Fabregas
These kids have done well an they all look promising and I see atleast 2 of them making our starting 11 in the next 3 years

No chance, in the next 3 years our midfield 3 will be Wilshere, Ramsey/Ox (dependent what position he ends up) and Coquelin. Our wide players likely to be Theo/podolski/Gervinho/Ox and Gnabry. All this even if we DON’T sign anyone – which is highly unlikely.
2 of the 3 will not end up with a career at arsenal – possibly all 3, the stars of the Youth team that have a great chance of making it are Gnabry and Akpom.

Dreams are dreams, and if only our bitching moaning ‘special players’ had appreciated Wenger & Arsenals contribution to their superstar status and actually taken some responsibility for winning instead of blaming every one & every thing else, then jumping ship for whatever reason, we all should have won something in the last few years.
The past is the past & the future is coming.
Onwards and upwards with our new squad and our promising young players!
Did you see how happy they were as a team after Sunday? All equal playing for each other with respect for the club and respect for their team mates, it was nice to see that after all the ‘I AM SPECIAL’ mentality of the last few years. (Theo thinks he is special, well he had a special view from the bench. Now he is probably going to leave on a free and prove he is an idiot with no respect for the club.)
Sign theo and move if you want, dont screw us when Wenger has put faith in you.

cesc will never worm any bench under coach wenger becus he made him and believe in him and becus of this he was handed the captain band when he was with arsenal. most of you arsenal fans love to behave like corwards you know you will embrace cesc if he returns to arsenal so why pretend. infact, who will make the decision and who will justify his acceptance is it you or coach wenger?
