Ashley: Will Arsenal do enough to persuade Sagna to stay?
Sagna’s situation by Ashley
Bacary Sagna came out and slated Arsenal’s transfer activity when the window closed and now it’s being reported that the French fullback is majorly unhappy at Arsenal. The defender’s contract is up at the end of next season, so unless we can get him to change his mind and commit to a new deal this 2012 /2013 campaign, then he could be the major name leaving Arsenal in the 2013 summer transfer window.
Wenger said on Sagna’s situation; “I’ve said that Bacary loves the club and will stay here and his article has been twisted a little bit because he spoke about Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla and there was never a word of that in the article.
“He didn’t want to be negative but you all know what you can do with any statement.
“Yes [I spoke to him]. It’s important to understand what he wanted to say. What he wanted to say was not exactly the spirit of the whole thing.
“You have the freedom to say what you want in life but it is also important you understand what people feel about the club and their job. It’s always important to have good communication with them.”
“It [a new contract for Sagna] will be discussed, I expect him to stay and I want him to stay. The interview does not really reflect at all the love he has for this club because he has always shown total commitment on the football pitch – for the team and the club.”
So Wenger feels that what was printed in the article was a bit controvestial and that Sagna’s words were twisted. I wouldn’t be surprised as that’s what the press does these days, however due to Sagna’s lack of activity on speaking about that article, I don’t think Wenger’s comments are true.
It’s also good that Wenger has spoken to Sagna and not just ignored the report because we all know that Sagna is one of the best right backs in the world due to his consistency and therefore we cannot afford to lose him. Like so many players, Sagna’s contract situation needs to be sorted out and I believe that Sagna will stay at Arsenal, however only time will tell the true outcome. Sagna will return to training in around 2 weeks.

If, as Wenger claims, the article was incomplete, then we have no idea of what Sagna is feeling. Articles like this should be kept until ALL the facts are known.

Ridiculous article. You don’t think what Wenger says is true? How do you come to that arrogant conclusion given that not all that Sagna said was not printed, so you are not in a position to pass judgement are you.

sagna doesnt need persuading to stay, its so obvious where the club is heading that his situation as a quality senior player is the same as nasri, RVP song, clichy and others.
He will and should leave if he can. The arsenal sinking ship has been going down for long enough for him to know he should jump ship and join an ambitious club.
Or he could stay if he wants to trade tippy-tappy passes with diaby, gervinho etc and have a few games in the champs league every season untill wenger miscalculates his 4th spot strategy.

What Winger should do is to consider the feelings of the fans and the young talented players,We need to win something!!! Keep our best so we can be the BEST!!!!!!!!!

Just ask yourself how often you have heard these words before. Then ask yourself how many of the previous stories ended with the player staying?
I’m guessing we all want him to stay but our record for keeping our best players is not good.
Only time will tell.
