Ankit: Which Arsenal players should be feeling embarrassed now?
Embarrassment – Undefined and Unimaginable by Ankit
This is not the first time and definitely not the last time. Being defeated is not something which is demoralising but the manner in which it happened….was damn embarrassing. If we play like this against ManUre, we would be battered again.
People may say the whole team was rubbish yesterday but there are specific individuals who deserve special mention, namely Ramsey, Giroud, Santos and Gervinho.
Let me first take you back to last season. Remember games against Norwich- both away and home….at Carrow Road the result was 2-1 to Arsenal and at the Emirates it was 3-3. Both were close games. I hate to admit it but van Pricey saved the day for us at Carrow Road last season when we were down by one goal at half time there. Again at home, when we really needed to win against the Canaries to seal our CL qualification, we threw away a two goal lead like anything.
Now moving to the performance of the gifted people mentioned above. Aaron Ramsey. Lot has been said about him during last season and in last 24 hrs.’ on various forums, social media sites etc. My only issue is why people do not criticize him when we win? He is nowhere a player deserving to be playing for a club of Arsenal’s stature. He constantly gives the ball away, passes the ball sideways too often instead of taking it forward, and he’s damn selfish. Don’t agree with me? ….see the game against Citeh and even yesterday’s game. For ten games, he is utter rubbish and for one game he is what one expects of him to be! Out comes the saviour bandwagon talking about his horrifying past with the plea “Give him time, he will improve” or “One for the future”. Seriously, people who take this plea should either change their view or tell me where he has improved? Wilshere will walk into the team on his place. High time, get him back to reserves and give an opportunity to Thomas Eisfeld who may work nicely as an impact substitute.
In one of my earlier articles, I had pointed out how this season could be litmus test for our left back Gibbs. I am glad that his performances so far have been exceptional for us. His injury, in fact has shown us his value to the team. Andre Santos says that competition with Gibbs has improved him as a player. I believe he is joking. There is no competition. People say that the goal against Norwich conceded was Mannone’s fault. Look what Santos did; he was the one who played Holt on-side. The shot by Tetty was not an easy one but Mannone did well to stop it as it changed its direction at the very last moment.
It is pretty much evident that Santos is better suited to left midfield position rather than LB position as he is just poor defender. Santos is 29yrs of age and his chances of improving on LB position are not looking good. I would rather have Vermaelen on LB and Koscielny & the Giant as Centre Backs. By the way, Gibbs will be back for the game against QPR.
8 games have been completed, month of October is coming to an end and it’s not looking good for Oliver Giroud. One goal in a rout over Coventry City and a great goal against the Hammers is all he has to show. The number of goals is not what one should be worried about, but his movement in and around the box is really worrying. At least for the moment, it seems that he is unable to link up with the midfield at all and neither read their passes. We do not play a system where headers play an important part but a system where swiftness across the pitch coupled with technical ability are emphasised. Even with the number of corners we had yesterday, not one was put to use by Giroud…so much so for his “Aerial Threat”. Giroud, at least for the moment, doesn’t seem something extravagant and is not blending in the Arsenal way of life. Still can’t believe we have only one recognised Centre Forward.
The curious case of Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi (Gervinho). Why was he shifted back to wings from CF, can’t understand. He looked much better with his movement at the top when compared with him at the wings. After all the work he does, his final touch is just tosh & the times he loses possession when attacking near the D is mind boggling, not to mention…irritating. We have no option or solution to that problem.
Since our forward line don’t seem penetrative enough, majority of teams will just sit back in their half and wait for the mistake from us. Sunderland, Stoke did take their chances but Norwich capitalised. Not to mention, QPR will be no different. Zamora & Cisse will be a pain (if they play) like last season. As it is Zamora loves playing against us.
Schalke defeated Borussia Dortmund as we were defeated by Norwich. Chamberlain and Walcott are both out now of that game. A win will sedate the negativity for the time being. It will be interesting to see the team which faces Schalke. Gnabry, I believe would be definitely there now.
Arsenal need to pull up their socks, if they want to play in Europe next season.
Media is going nuts about our move for Adrian Lopez, come January. He is WINGER who CAN play across the forward line. Believe we need a specialist WHO WILL and not somebody WHO CAN.
Question for debate: Adrian Lopez will be better served as Theo’s replacement or as a Centre Forward? We need a CF – no not Fernando Llorente but somebody like Roberto Soldado, technical and always at the right place at the right time.
Hope for the best from the next game

Frankly it is time we rejected the standard excuses from AW and the players about their poor play. The players each receive thousands of pounds every week to deliver good, quality play every time for every game. Yet they don’t….WHY NOT…??
They are collectively at fault and collectively in praise when they somehow manage a rare good game.

Many fans think Europe is a certainty? We’ve lost a lot of points and it’s early and the players are already tired??

something in me still trying to recover after that match. unbelievable performance particularly we knew that norwich was strungling in a bottom of three n spurs was defeated by celski. i dont even know which player to be blamed. those players u mention played awful, i do agree. but at the end of it, football is a team game. i hope man city will take falcao so we can get dzeko. he is a better finisher than giroud..

We were rubbish. Period. Arteta was the only player who showed urgency and hunger to get back in the game.
How you can single out ONLY three players for criticism is a skill in itself.
young Ramsey is obviously not you cup of tea and that is ok. The kid will always be a scape goat. I like him and feel sorry for him.
You also think Giroud should have made more use of the corners. but nothing about Cazorla’s poor delivery all day.
Is Giroud supposed to take them and get on the end of them as well?
Your post is not honest because you hammer some and protect others.Sucking up to the big names and slaughtering the others is not cool man. Podolski was poor too.
We always have performances like this in us and only the manager can change the mentality. Norwich did not have a win until Saturday ffs.The late kick off should have been an incentive to go 4th
We are still a good team but complacency beat us, Not Norwich.

whom have I protected ? Podolski ? I believe you must be knowing that he is not at his 100% due to an ankle injury which he sustained 3-4 matches ago.
Sorry but Ramsey doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes.
You are talking about Cazorla……except Arteta, no other player can match the amount of work they have done. Cazorla had a bad….I agree but that’s just one.

Let me get this straight to you….Cazorla and Podolski played two intl. games during break which should not be an excuse for an off day.Podolski was playing with injury.
Everybody knows Ramsey’s quality but the problem is that it is shown in far and few games. A player having experience of almost 50 games for a club of Arsenal’s stature can’t be called young. I have said that this guy needs to play with the reserves for a while and get his basics right, which if he doesn’t….then ship him off. This young player crap and excuse is the bane of all problems for Arsenal.
Usually I don’t criticize Prof but when talking about playing injured players I can give you a long list of players who inspite of being injured were taken chance on. eg:- WILSHERE, DIABY(I can’t even count how many times), FABREGAS , Szczęsny etc

50 games is equivalent to less than a season and a half.
It’s age that makes you young or old not apperances.
Are you saying wilshere and Gibbs are old players.
Experience is entirely difference.
With our failure to win a trophy for 7 years what are you messuring Ramsey’s progress by.It’s not as if he’s the odd one out in terms of medals.
You cannot learn first team consistancy in the reserves.
“The young player crap” as you put it is here to stay according to club policy over the last 7 years which apparently most fans support.(I do’nt)
So unless you are willing to cut the youngsers some slack
Your days of frustration are only just begining.
Ramsey today, who next? what if Wilshere has a set back on his return? All our midfield players have question marks over their fitness apart from Arteta and Cazorla and the alternatives have even less experience than Ramsey. At some stage patients will have to be a virtue.
As always i respect your right to an opinion even if it’s different from my own.

@Gooner N4 50 games was just an example. What I am trying to say is that whether the person is learning from his mistakes or not. I believe he is not and has started to take his place in the team for grated ! That maybe due to excessive trust by Prof on him. Arsenal minus Ramsey is a better and much more stable unit. I measure his progress in comparison with Gibbs(the youngest)….and even on that development of Ramsey as a player is disappointing.
It is not that we don’t have any options…..Eisfeld is knocking on the door of the 1st team now. With Wilshere,Coquelin,Diaby and the veteran ‘Rosicky’ coming back. I am optimistic about a stronger Arsenal midfield.

Ok…But with our policy of investing in youth, this is the price we have to pay.The proof is in the last 7 years.
youth will never compensate but we refuse to pay for experience in numbers.
We both want the best for Arsenal but the list of young players who have fallen by the way side is a long one through no fault of their own.
This debate has been fun.
Cheers.

My overall opinion is based on our spending policy which i do not agree with.I believe that to get the best out of the young players like Ramsey, vela,Denilson,in the past and even Wilshere, their has to be experience mixed in.The type that cost money.
I said only Arteta performed against Norwich Meaning i condenmed the rest.
In recent years we have always lacked the sort of guidance on the pitch that lifts the youngsters.the kind of players that tell their team mates the truth.
“Pull your finger”out!..”that pass was sh*t”.
Adams, Bould, Keown,Vieria,Petit all played their part in guiding players like Rocastle,Thomas,Parlour,Hughes,Cole and the rest.
We have not had that kind of influence for so long, that young players have been labelled not good enough and been bombed out when they have been good enough.
It’s just a vicious circle that does not seem to have an end to it.
Man united’s famous youngsters still had Bruce, Pallister, Irwin,Schmichel to pull them through difficult games and remind them what was needed to wear the shirt.
Sorry to mention them but i hope you get my point.
It’s not a knee jerk reaction.I’ve said it many times.
Cheers.

I get your point mate. Schalke defeat just shows how depressing it is getting. The standards are slipping big time. I am really worried about Arsenal this season. Wenger has to sign at least three players this January if he wants to make to the third spot(yes….now we play for the 3rd-4th spot):-
1) Goalkeeper – Micheal Vorm
2) A World class STRIKER
3) a good winger
And furthermore, It is time now for Wenger to move up ladder so that a young manager could takeover the reins to club in his own hands, breathing life into this stale atmosphere which we have at the club now.

Ankit as you asked mate. Oliver giroud and gervInho was awful . Santos also in my opinion is a little over weight and should go faster in running instead of cars. Are keeper is not that great we should buy a old head a keeper that’s about 27 to 32. This would help the younger lads between the posts. We need a world class striker which Wenger will never buy only buy young make him great when it’s to late then sell him for more money.
